The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has maintained the 2019 crop purchase price for maize, soya beans and paddy rice in this year’s crop marketing season.
The agency will purchase a 50kg bag of white maize and soya beans at K110/50kg and K150/50kg respectively while the price for paddy has been set at K70/40kg.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, FRA chief executive officer Chola Kafwabulula has also disclosed that the agency expects to spend about K2.2billon on this year’s marketing season which commences in three weeks’ time.
Mr. Kafwabululula says the agency has set up 1200 satellite depots in 105 districts and that it will purchase up to 1million metric tons of maize as directed by President Edgar Lungu.
He says this will not be the first time that the agency will handle over a million tons of maize as it has done so in the 2011 where it purchased about 1.7million metric tons of the same commodity.
The 2020 maize production is expected at an above average level of 3 million tonnes.
