The Patriotic Front on the Copperbelt has refuted allegations sitting members of parliament have been endorsed as automatic as candidates for the 2021 general elections.
A video has gone viral on social media in which an unnamed Christian Coalition party official has asked PF President Edgar lungu not to accept the decision made by the party administration in the province.
The allegations suggest that the consultative meeting held over the weekend resolved to endorse sitting MPs, most of whom are very unpopular, for the 2021 general election.
In the said video, the unnamed official explains that Christian Coalition Members who are also Members of the PF have been preparing themselves to stand on the ruling party ticket in 2021 but that the alleged resolution made by the provincial executive committee in the province has disappointed many hopefuls.
However, Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson Nathan Chanda has clarified that contrary to the allegations, the consultative meeting only resolved to support sitting members of parliament up to the end of their term of office.
Chanda has told journalists that the party also resolved that those with intentions to contest the 2021 elections on the PF ticket should not start campaigning now but instead give serving Members of Parliament time to finish their mandate.
