Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has joined his counterpart Chishimba Kambwili of linking allegations of drug trafficking to State House.
During a press briefing on Monday, Kambwili made numerous allegations against Lusaka businessman Valden Findley. He accused Findley of being involved in drug trafficking.
Twenty four hours later, Hichilema has joined the chorus.
“Investigate alleged drug trafficking in high places,” he said in his social media post.
“We are alarmed by the news of a drug related court hearing in the United States that appear to link certain individuals connected to the Zambian State House.
“In view of the foregoing, we call upon our investigative institutions and other relevant government organs to liaise with their counterparts in the United States, so that this matter that has the potential to undermine Zambia’s integrity in the eyes of the international community and at home, is brought to a speedy conclusion. The Zambian citizens have a right to know.
“In the same vein, we call upon Mr Edgar Lungu and the PF to immediately clear the air over these allegations that seriously undermines the rule of law in Zambia.
“They owe it to our nation and our people to account for any allegation of criminality that has probable consequences that threaten peace and security in our nation.”
