Patricia Mwashingwele

United Party for National Development (UPND) Hakainde Hichilema is shocked at the news of Katuba member of parliament Patricia Mwashingwele’s death.

Mwashingwele died early this morning at the University Teaching Hospital – UTH after an illness.

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka confirmed Mwashingwele ‘s death in a statement.

Hichilema said the news was shocking and had left the UPND broken.

“It is with shock that we received the death of Hon. Patricia Mwashingwele who, until her demise, was our Member of Parliament for Katuba Constituency.

“Indeed Patricia was a courageous and hardworking woman who’s contribution to the growth of UPND in Katuba and Central province in general is immeasurable.

“Patricia was very intellectual and at the same time very humble. Those that care to follow parliament radio will attest to the fact that Patricia was a prolific debater and a courageous one at that.

“To her the family, we commiserate with you. This is a difficult time and we will do everything possible to make the burden lighter. To the wider UPND family, please let us show our love once more to the family of Patricia. This is a great loss to the UPND family but we shall overcome.

“As we mourn Patricia let us remember to commit her to God through our lord Jesus Christ by referring to 2 Timothy 4:6-8; Patricia fought the fight and now it remains on us to carry on where she left off,” he writes.

Meanwhile. Katuka says the party will greatly miss Mwashingwele

He further says funeral arrangements and burial will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, the Patriotic Front has sent a message of condolence to the UPND on the death of Ms. Mwashingwele.

PF Secretary General Davies Mwila says the death of Ms. Mwashingwele is a blow to the political scene because she had the interests of the nation at heart.

In a message of condolence, Mwila described Mwashingwele as a phenomenal woman, mother, wife and politician.

He says the ruling Patriotic Front is saddened by her death and has since conveyed sympathies to the family, the people of Katuba and entire UPND Members.
