The suspension of UPND Vice-President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is part of scheme to dump a Bemba top official in preference to a southerner.
According to UPND officials, GBM was never meant to last as the party’s deputy.
And now he faces the boot after being suspended. Although UPND is skeptical and wary of the backlash that will come with nominating a Tonga for veep, officials suggest that is the only way the opposition will strengthen going into the 2021 polls.
Yesterday, the National Management Committe announced the suspension of GBM as deputy after the official clashed with senior party officials over the control of the northern block.
