Chief Government Spokesperson Dora Siliya has told UNZA management and council workers to start generating their own revenue because government has so many other competing needs.
Ms. Siliya says the two institutions have so much capacity to generate their own revenue, and therefore wonders why they have to rely on government for salaries.
According to a statement issued by UNZALARU, their March salaries have been delayed and neither UNZA management nor government has the resources to pay workers readily available.
But Ms. Siliya says UNZA should start operating like other universities in the country, adding that government cannot be paying a few individuals when it has other competing needs.
Meanwhile, UNZALARU General Secretary Kelvin Mambwe has described Ms. Siliya’s statement as ignorant.
Dr. Mambwe has volunteered to provide refresher courses for some ministers to understand how public institutions of learning should be managed.
