Police in Lusaka yesterday arrested UPND Lusaka Province chairman Obvious Mwaliteta for allegedly being found with offensive weapons in his car in Kafue.
This was in the midst of election campaigns in the district.
Kafue voted for a new council chairperson with the PF emerging victorious last night.
Retired Brigadier General Simakoloyi Moono defeated UPND’s Beatrice Kayuni.
Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri said yesterday that Mwaliteta was detained at Lusaka Central Police Station where he was interrogated.
Phiri said police want to know why Mwaliteta had pangas and machetes in his car.
The police commissioner has further revealed that Mwaliteta was with some UPND youths at the scene who however managed to escape.
