Speaker Hands Minister 7-Day Suspension

Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa has been suspended from parliament for what the Speaker has been described as the highest level of disrespect to- First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Namugala.

This follows a letter of complaint by Nalikwanda Member of Parliament Geoffrey Lungwangwa to the Speaker Patrick Matibini that the Northern Province minister disrespected Namugala when he pointed a finger and shouted at her when she was chairing the Committee of Supply on Tuesday November 2, 2018.

This happened when Chilangwa failed to raise a point of order against Choma Central Member of Cornelius Mweetwa, and was ordered to leave the chamber because of his unruly behaviour.

And in delivering his ruling Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Matibini has suspended Chilangwa for seven days.

Dr. Matibini has since urged Chilangwa to reflect and desist from conduct unbefitting a member of parliament much less a minister.
