Pres. Lungu: Corruption Fight Should Not Be Used To Settle Political Score

President Edgar Lungu has expressed disappointment that the fight against corruption has been politicised in the nation.

He stated that corruption is a cancer that robs the nation of the necessary development and had to be genuinely called out and dealt with in an honest manner and not used as a political campaign issue.

He said he found it ridiculous that only politically exposed people are deemed corrupt in Zambia stating that there is a lot of rot down the ladder which needed to be addressed in order to win the fight against corruption.

He called on agencies tasked with the responsibility to fight corruption to do their job thoroughly by fishing out all that are involved in the retrogressive vice.

“The fight against corruption will only yield results if everyone is involved. It should not be used to settle political scores,” he said.

He stated that the Zambian people deserve to have their resources utilised in a prudent and transparent manner.

“Corruption puts the country into misery. When you are supposed to procure something for 10 Kwacha and you procure it for 100 kwacha, you have stolen 90 Kwacha from the Zambian people. In the end, the nation will not prosper,” he said.

The President said this at State House this morning, when the ZCTU leadership called on him to discuss various matters of national interest.
